I love this time of the year! It is a time when many of us are able to gather together with our families, friends and loved ones; a time to celebrate the holidays and welcome the New Year; a time to relax, reflect and plan for exciting new beginnings.
As the VP, Global Chief Diversity Officer, I have the honor and privilege of leading EMC’s worldwide diversity and inclusion strategy, continuously reinforcing global diversity and inclusion as a business imperative. By collaborating with senior leadership on assessment, action planning and cultural change, we’ve created an ever more inclusive workplace that welcomes authenticity for diverse constituencies.
Earlier this month I attended one of my all-time favorite conferences – a conference known for inspiring over 10,000 women (and a few good men) – the 2015 Massachusetts Conference for Women. As a co-chair sponsor, EMC had 900+ women in attendance – the largest number of EMC attendees to date! EMC also sponsored the opening night reception. It was an honor to kick off the event and share the stage with Tim Gunn, fashion guru, co-host, and producer of Project Runway and co-founder of The Life is good Company, Bert Jacobs. Certainly a night to remember!
Along with many of my amazing colleagues and friends, I had the privilege of participating as one of the conference speakers and panelists. It was wonderful to see how receptive and encouraged the crowd was as we shared our personal journeys and experiences as women leaders in the technology industry. Their enthusiasm both during and in-between sessions, along with their desire to make every second count by seeking inspiration in all its many forms, and connecting with their peers to expand their network, was beyond motivating and made sponsoring this event that much more worthwhile.
Personally, 2015 has been fabulous! We’ve continued to introduce best-in-class practices, including global diversity training and development; expanded our employee resource groups; and increased investment in women’s leadership. Our efforts have led to multiple honors for EMC, including recognition as a Top 25 Noteworthy Company by Diversity Inc, a leading employer by Disability Matters and a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index for 5 consecutive years.
A leader is only as great as those who support them; with that being said, I would like to send out a big shout out to my family, supporters, friends and amazing team for their tireless efforts. All that we have accomplished this past year would not have been possible without you. Let’s continue to support each other for an even more successful 2016 as we make technology history by embarking on our newest and most exciting adventure yet – the merger between Dell and EMC. I have no doubt that this once in a lifetime opportunity will further enhance our leadership and business skills.
Cheers and Happy Holidays!
